Evee's outfit
"Thank you, Stanford, I'll be back," the young woman stepped from the car.
"Anytime madam, I'll keep you limousine running, " Her driver Stanford nodded and closed her door when she began to walk to the building. It was beautifully designed with white marble steps leading up to the thick oak doors. It was tall and set in the shopping district of the city. Stylish people dressed as herself, walked in and out of the doors, of course holding a leash. The building also had two front windows, like shops usually do. Except this was no normal shop.
Children were in the windows. Like puppies they had a food and water dishes. The men and women, and even teenagers held leashes that had children and teens and sometimes adults. They looked alike, they even talked alike, except one detail, the ones on the end of the chains, were mutants. She called them gifted. Like her, she was gifted. Evee did not even have the bar code on her neck. She looked normal and since she was born to two human parents she was not even tested for gifts. Evee walked to the steps, today was the day. It was time for her first gifted.
Well many knew of the rich Mcrae heiress. Though she had just turned twenty five that day. Many thought this would be a birthday present to herself, well they would be right and wrong at the same time. They knew Miss Mcrae as a rich, well brought up, human. Today was the day she released her people. One would be brought today freed. Of course she wanted a violent creature. One that was going to fight her on the way out. Hopefully when she showed her powers they would then be in shock. Of course she would expect some hate or maybe someone she could take in. She loved children but she needed a teenager. Someone she could train. Then they would be sent out and find those on the street so they could come to her house and they would find themselves a haven. Safe from slave driving humans. Evee sneered.
She took a big breath and pushed open the doors. Her eyes were open to the filthy keeping of the cages. These poor kids. She felt bile burn in her throat. A few in the crowd stopped and whispered her name. Evelyn Mcrae? A few she greeted politely, it was like her first cocktail party without her parents. People greeted her and mingled awkwardly. Of all the auction houses she could have gone to, why did she have to choose this one? She could have one of the finer bred specimen of Gifteds. Not these mutts. As Evee talked she felt the sickening sense that this was like a ritzy animal shelter. The thought made her shiver.
She finally had to pull away when a line of chained and powerless gifteds were brought through. The crowd of humans clapped and she herself just stood watching, trying to make eye contact, trying to find the one that said, "Save me." She frowned, this was harder than she thought.
Finally when they were locked in cages made of thick tempered glass, naked, bound, and utterly miserable the humans and Evee made their way forward, to look and find which Gifted they wanted. This was hard indeed. Every one she passed seemed to not want to look at her they coward in the back of their cages or they just sat down cast. She almost wanted to cry. But of course she had to look like a stern buyer. She put on her business face and made her way past the cages, waiting for one of them to look at her and say with their eyes and heart, "get me out of here."
